About
Aveiro Labour Observatory is an innovative initiative developed under the scope of the project Aveiro STEAM City. The project is financed by the European Union in the Urban Innovative Actions program. This project brings together a consortium of local entities engaged in the digital transformation of Aveiro, namely trough the development of quality jobs and contributing to the urban development and sustainability.
The Observatory aims to contribute to the development of skills and to the retention of human talent in Aveiro, identifying training needs and developing training programs to meet the challenges of the business environment in Aveiro.
Motivated by the digital transformation that characterizes the current contexts of life and work, the Labour Observatory conducts multiple activities aimed at diagnosing what are the qualification and requalification needs in Aveiro, in a tight dialogue with companies and local stakeholders in the business domains of ICTE, Industry, Tourism and Services.
The development of such a prospective view about the qualification priorities in Aveiro will allow for the dissemination of information in a systematic manner, reaching local stakeholders in including professionals, education and training providers, businesses, among others. The Observatory will provide information about the demands for skills and competences in the current labor market, and this information will support the development of short-term short training programs targeted to the specific needs of sectors of ICTE, Industry, Tourism and Services, as well as targeting young graduates across different fields of knowledge.
The activities of Aveiro Labour Observatory are developed by a multidisciplinary team that brings together researchers across the different scientific domains from the University of Aveiro. It builds also on the collaboration of other partners in the Aveiro STEAM City project, including INOVA-RIA and the Municipality of Aveiro.
An opportunity to discuss the present and the future of work, at the disposal of Aveiro.
Activities
A great extent of the work develop by the Aveiro Labour Observatory involves the conduction of research activities, including the data collection and discussion with companies and other local stakeholders, with the purpose of building a valid and updated diagnosis of priorities for qualification to meet the digital transformation in Aveiro.
During the years of 2019 and 2020 such activities involve the conduction of workshops, interviews and questionnaires addressing local companies and entities across the target sectors identified in the project: ICTE, Industry, Tourism and Services.

Over 4 weeks, 4 awareness workshops took place at UNAVE, marking the launching pad for the 4 pilot training programs.
From Monitoring to Optimization: sensing, analyzing and visualizing data, and machine learning – June, 23rd
Big Data Computing Technology as Industry Support 4.0 – June, 30th
Challenges and best practices in designing and mapping processes by digital means – July, 7th

They took place in a hybrid format, allowing for a connection between training, practical knowledge and the business fabric, where we have the presence of renowned elements associated with the various themes presented.
It was a pleasure to receive all participants and clarify any existing doubts.
Ongoing Pilot Training Programs
Our training continues at an excellent pace!
And there is nothing more gratifying than knowing that we are qualifying almost 8 dozen individuals from our region in different areas.
We will continue like this, observing and working.
NETWORKING Pilot Training Programs
In a world increasingly made at a distance, the Observatory team tries to get closer. Therefore, yesterday, October 18, a networking event took place between the various trainees in our pilot training programs.
A relaxed session that undoubtedly marked this training path that allowed the exchange of ideas, opinions and discussion of positive and negative aspects of the training sessions, but above all the exchange of knowledge between trainers-trainees, trainers-trainers and trainees-trainees.
Thanks to everyone who was present!
Aveiro Tech Week 2021
Throughout the week, the municipality of Aveiro developed another edition of Aveiro Tech Week. A week that combined technology, culture and art.
The Employment Observatory team was present, promoting a session on the development of their work where they highlighted the need for qualification as a key factor in societies, and in particular, in Aveiro.
A great opportunity to show our work, and for that, we thank everyone who attended.
We thank all those who listened to us, being certain that we will continue to work and invest in the qualification and training of the region.
WORKSHOPS
The conduction of workshops and interviews allow for the collection of data and for the discussion with local stakeholders about the digital transformation challenges that local businesses are facing, in particular, regarding the qualification and requalification of human resources. The results and insights gained in the workshops are the basis to develop questionnaire tools that will complement the diagnosis exercise.
